Diana Maul Halstead, a soldier’s daughter from Riverbend, began interviewing veterans after finding her late father’s secret POW diary and turning it into a memoir—Legends of the Barbed Wire Hotel.
She is editing an interview with Mayor Mike Morrow and will document more local veterans’ stories to keep history alive.

It is harvest time for soybean farmers in Illinois and Missouri but a dry summer and the trade war have hurt the crop.
Farmer Paul Beisiegal said that lower prices—and China’s boycott—have hurt the market and that farmers hope the federal government will offer aid soon.
