A suspect was taken into custody after a 33-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Thursday morning in Belleville—she was struck on Greenmount Road near Route 15 and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Belleville police said that Emily Johnson, age 33 from Mascoutah, died in a hit-and-run accident and that authorities found the vehicle—and a suspect—in their investigation.

Russell, 33, remains in custody—charged with multiple felony offenses including defacing a firearm and possessing cannabis—as all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
