  • On Sept. 11, Belleville community members and local leaders gathered at the September 11 Memorial Walkway to remember the 2001 terrorist attacks — they honored first responders with speeches and patriotic songs. Local officials praised the unity that emerged from the tragic events, marking the ceremony as a solemn tribute to bravery.  Riverbender
  • On Sept. 11, Belleville’s 9/11 Memorial Walkway held a Moment of Remembrance Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with a 35-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center and keynote Brigadier General Douglas D. Jackson, while Scott Air Force Base began its ceremony at 7:40 a.m. and Granite City and West County held additional tributes—honoring nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11.  KSDK

  • The WWII battle-tested ship LST-325 will dock at the Alton Riverfront for museum tours from Sept 18 to 22 — it carried tanks and supplies during D-Day and crossed the English Channel 44 times during the war.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch

  • Educators in Cahokia are still working without contracts three weeks into the school year as talks over changes to long-standing contract language and paid sick leave continue—bargaining sessions are scheduled for Monday and Thursday.
