- ➤ Southern Illinois University Edwardsville cut its deficit and increased enrollment by 920 students to 12,813 — the schools of business, engineering, and nursing saw the biggest boosts. St. Louis Post-Dispatch

- ➤ Gardeners in Belleville are advised to clean their beds by removing dead plants, adding compost, and spreading mulch to help plants resist winter cold so they can grow well in spring.
