- ➤ The Belleville Area Humane Society will host its annual Wine for Whiskers fall festival on September 18—from 5:30—9 p.m.—at The Weingarten to support local animal care. Community members can enjoy dinner, drinks, carnival games, raffles and a silent auction with $50 tickets that include dinner and two drink tickets while BAHS aims to raise $55,000 for food, veterinary care and facility updates. - ➤ Shareholders Chad J. Richter and Allyson T. Schwab of Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. have been recognized in the 2026 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America edition—Richter for commercial litigation and trusts and estates litigation and Schwab for business organizations and estate planning; Schwab works from Belleville and Freeburg while Richter is based in Edwardsville. - ➤ Marathon Petroleum Corp. rebranded several local gas stations in Missouri and Illinois over recent months — including a former Casey’s station in Alton and six others — to launch its presence in the St. Louis region. KSDK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Harold Schaedler, 49, took off on his routine motorized bike ride Saturday evening near Illinois Route 157 in Cahokia Heights but did not return—he was fatally struck by a hit-and-run vehicle near his Belleville home and police have not yet identified the driver or located his missing bike.
