- ➤ Caritas Family Solutions raised $129,875 during its 24-hour Caritas Day campaign from July 31 to August 1—surpassing its $100,000 goal and funding services for children, families, seniors and adults with disabilities across Southern Illinois. The nonprofit celebrated its 78th anniversary with support from over 200 donors, matching partners, staff and volunteers—showing strong local backing for its mission. Riverbender

- ➤ Madison County courts warn locals of a jury duty scam (scammers use fake names, phone numbers, and email addresses to mislead people) while genuine letters come from the Circuit Court. First Alert 4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois State Police warned motorists to slow to 20 mph in school zones from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days—drivers must also stop for school buses using flashing red lights and extended stop arms as schools prepare to open for the new academic year. Riverbender

- ➤ The American Red Cross is offering free A1C screening for all blood, platelet, or plasma donors in August during National Wellness Month. In Belleville, a drive will be held at the Downtown Belleville YMCA on August 21 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.—donors can view their confidential results on the Blood Donor App and may receive a $15 e-gift card if they donate between August 1 and 28.
