- ➤ Registration is open for the Fall 2025 session of Citizens for Modern Transit’s Ten Toes + Transit program held in partnership with AARP and the St. Clair County Transit District to help more than 10,000 older adults explore local attractions using public transit. In-person registration events will be held on August 8 at the St. Clair County Office on Aging, August 19 at the Belleville Transit Center, and August 22 at the same office while the session kicks off on August 28 with a guided walk—participants choose groups based on location and time. - ➤ Kurtavia White, a former caseworker assigned to monitor a Fairview Heights foster child who died in May 2024, had a troubled past that includes a Metro East strip club brawl—she faced multiple orders of protection from several women—and police are still investigating how she handled her home visits. - ➤ A man from Bethalto was charged with aggravated arson, battery, and a hate crime after he severely beat 22-year-old nursing student Winston Rulo at an apartment complex on July 19, and Rulo is now recovering at home (his mom said the attack included homophobic slurs). St. Louis Post-Dispatch
