- ➤ John Gregory Mudge, Jr., a 75-year-old local advocate known for his work at Mudge Professional Services and the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation, died on July 21 after a long battle with cancer. A visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home—his legacy of compassion and service lives on in our community. Riverbender
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A SIUE criminal justice student organized messy files from the 14-year-old murder case of trucker Truman Lee Smith and turned them over to state investigators, which led police to file murder charges against inmate Alan Davis in May. The work—part of an unpaid program that trains eight students each semester—is helping bring new ideas to solve cold cases. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ Guideon Richeson, a 68-year-old board trustee in St. Jacob and funeral home owner in Troy, was indicted last week on 11 counts of income tax fraud and failure to submit required returns since 2020—court records also show he did not keep proper books from 2017 to 2020. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ Belleville detectives took Tynika McKinzie into custody Tuesday, July 22 for outstanding felony warrants linked to a shooting incident at the McDonald’s on July 16 at 125 South Belt East—she was booked at the Belleville Police Department and then sent to the St. Clair County Jail pending further court proceedings. - ➤ Police said an 11-year-old boy was shot on Monday around 3:30 p.m. at the 1600 block of Andrews Drive in Cahokia Heights—he was taken to a hospital in critical condition while a Major Case Squad was activated to lead the investigation. St. Louis Post-Dispatch

- ➤ The Illinois State Police will host two women-only recruiting events on July 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Belleville event at Southwestern Illinois College campus—2500 Carlyle Avenue and the Chicago event at XS Tennis Village—5336 S.
