- ➤ Caritas Family Solutions in Belleville will celebrate 78 years on July 31 with Caritas Day, an annual fundraiser for local children, families, and adults. The nonprofit will launch a 24-hour matching gift campaign from 2 p.m. on July 31 to 2 p.m. on August 1 that will match $4 for every $1 donated+ its goal is to raise $100,000 to support those in need. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A partnership between Illinois State Police and SIUE reviewed the 2011 shooting death of Truman Smith in East St. Louis and on May 22 charged 34-year-old Alan Davis with first-degree murder; he is now held at Graham Correctional Center for an earlier battery conviction. Riverbender
- ➤ Illinois State Police & SIUE Criminal Justice students solved cold cases by naming three Jane Does, victims of serial killer Maury Travis in 2002, while their review of evidence led to charges against Alan Davis for the 2011 murder of Truman Smith. Riverbender
