  • Ameren urged Belleville parents to talk with their children about staying away from overhead power lines and electrical equipment as kids enjoy summer outdoors—advising safe use of drones, RC planes and kites, and caution around downed lines.  Riverbender

CULTURE NEWS

  • Baldwin, a local researcher from Alton, has spent years studying Underground Railroad sites and civil rights history after a chance funeral conversation in 2017 led him to uncover hidden landmarks and detailed archive records. A state commission will review hundreds of potential sites + work to preserve key landmarks like Arbuckle Cemetery as vital parts of the region’s past.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • Belleville East High School students earned awards at Art on the Square in Belleville, with six of the 56 entries winning honors out of 250 total. Rising senior Aubrey Heins won six prizes for her colored pencil drawing (Hope Persists).  Riverbender
