COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Doula Lab, a pregnancy resource center in Belleville, will offer baby supplies giveaways on July 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on July 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6400 West Main Street Suite 1D—followed by a back-to-school kickoff and community baby shower on August 9 at Belleville West High School.  Riverbender
  • Together Credit Union partnered with The Little Bit Foundation to host a back-to-school donation drive at its 14 branch locations in the Greater St. Louis area through July. The drive supports students affected by the May 16 tornado and asks donors to drop off essential school supplies (such as backpacks, colored pencils, markers, folders, binders, notebooks, loose leaf paper, and pencil cases).  KSDK

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 48-year-old man from Belleville, Michael B. Touchette, died when he was struck by a vehicle in Fairview Heights on Monday night + police said he had been warned for walking on the roadway earlier.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch

CRIME NEWS

  • A Belleville man nearly lost his reward money when a scammer sent a face-swapped dog photo claiming to have found his missing pet after she bolted during Fourth of July weekend, and a similar tactic was used on a Chicago family+ officials warn pet owners to verify details before sending money.  First Alert 4
  • Illinois State Police said employees from 13 establishments were cited for selling alcohol to minors during a month-long June operation+ one Belleville employee was among those charged with a Class A misdemeanor.  Riverbender
  • On July 7, authorities arrested Joshua L. Glen-Colley, 18, of Alton after he was linked to the July 4 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Shabrya L. Hudson inside her home on the 900 block of Oakwood Avenue & he now faces charges including first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of weapons while another suspect, Morgan E. Booth, was detained for obstructing justice.  Riverbender

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Belleville Police Department promoted Lieutenant Robert Thomason to Captain, Master Sergeant Tim Crimm to Lieutenant, and Detective Angelque Shields to Sergeant today after the City Council and Board of Fire and Police Commission approved the moves—officials invite residents to congratulate the officers on their new roles.  Riverbender
  • Metro Transit officials said boardings increased by 15% to 1.37 million at 11 stations with new turnstiles—these stations accounted for 60% of the overall 11% rise while safety incidents dropped from 55 to 32 between January and May. The $61 million security upgrade also includes improved cameras and fencing with remaining stations set to receive turnstiles by early next year.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
