  • Belleville residents will join the third annual Wounded Warriors Wiffle Wars on July 26 at 100 Eagle Drive to support the Wounded Warriors Project as teams of four to five players take part in a slow-pitch tournament for $25 per player with games starting at 9:30 a.m.—Organizer Hayden Schaefer said the event will also offer raffles, food and other activities to honor SSgt. Tanner Hackstadt and Sr. Airmen Marcus Smiley.  Riverbender

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Agencies continued searching Monday for a 20-year-old man described as 6 feet 7 inches tall and wearing pink swim trunks in the Mississippi River near Grafton following a 9:30 p.m. Saturday call reporting three swimmers in the water—two of whom reached shore.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch

CRIME NEWS

  • Police chased a suspect on Route 111 north of I-55/70 just before 1 a.m.—the suspect’s vehicle overturned in the Cahokia Canal in Madison County and crews took nearly an hour to retrieve it as the suspect was taken into custody with no injuries reported.  First Alert 4
  • A 19-year-old man named Quan Vaughn was shot and killed in the 300 block of Greystone Drive in Cahokia Heights early Sunday morning shortly after 5 a.m.—police say the motive is under investigation.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois’ senior U.S. Senator Dick Durbin went to Cahokia Heights City Hall on Friday to mark the end of the first part of a sewer project funded with $13.5 million in federal money—aimed at tackling flooding and raw sewage issues. Local officials say the work will improve safety after years of water problems that hurt homes and health.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
