  • On June 9, 5 On Your Side will team up with the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Mound City Bar Association to offer free legal advice to tornado victims affected by the May 16 storm. Those needing help with insurance claims, landlord-tenant issues, or property damage can call 314-425-5381 between 4 and 7 p.m. — trained legal professionals will assist callers.  KSDK

CRIME NEWS

  • Police helped firefighters put out a car fire in Fairview Heights early Friday when a pedestrian assisting a family member was struck and killed by a passing vehicle— the driver pulled over and reportedly cooperated with authorities.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • A motorcycle driver, Montie Eugene Ritchie, 34, died in a crash in Granite City after he sped off from a police traffic stop for a parole violation warrant — the collision occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Maryville Road and Pontoon Road intersection and is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.  First Alert 4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Clair County Transit District is launching a new interactive online map for its MetroBikeLink system—covering more than 39 miles of trails that connect six transit centers—today ahead of National Trails Day, and the map lets users view basic trail details along with features like parking and call boxes as part of the free GO TRAILing program running through Aug. 9.  Riverbender
  • Residents are urging Belleville leaders to cancel a plan for a 25-acre solar farm near Mt. Hope Cemetery—an online petition has gathered nearly 500 signatures. City officials face legal and financial issues if they cancel the deal, and the project is in final talks with Ameren to connect to the power grid.  KSDK
