CRIME NEWS

  • ABC will air a new '20/20' episode Friday at 8 p.m. that revisits Bonnie Woodward’s 2010 murder and the trial that convicted Roger Carroll to 65 years—this review of the case, which involved abuse and kidnapping, is expected to highlight key details.   St. Louis Post-Dispatch

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear Rep. Mike Bost’s appeal that claims Illinois’ mail-in voting law lets ballots be counted after Election Day—a rule Bost from Murphysboro argues undermines federal election requirements. The case will determine if Bost has the legal right to sue while oral arguments are set to begin in October.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that maintenance work will take place on westbound I-64 between Ninth Street and the Martin Luther King Drive ramps in St. Clair County from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 (weather permitted). Traffic will be reduced to one lane (drivers are advised to use alternate routes) during the work period.  Riverbender
  • Investigator Lee Rinehart retired from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department after 32 years in law enforcement. He began his career in January 1993 with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and served 12 years as a sergeant in Marissa (he joined the sheriff’s department on February 18, working in patrol, the DEA task force and the investigations division before retiring) and the department thanked him for his service.  Riverbender

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, O'Fallon Girls Soccer won 3-0 over Lincoln-Way East to reach the IHSA Class 3A state finals and will face Barrington in Friday’s semifinals at 7 p.m.—Claire Nieroda scored twice as Brynn Ori made five saves. In Belleville West sectional boys volleyball on Tuesday, O'Fallon came back to beat Frankfort Lincoln-Way East with set scores of 23-25, 31-29, 25-21 and will play Orland Park Carl Sandburg in Friday’s state quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m.—the win sets up a close playoff game.  Riverbender
  • Tuesday, June 3, the Play It Again Sports scoreboard showed scores from IHSA softball, baseball and soccer playoffs along with national results in MLB and WNBA games. Monday, June 2, it listed extra innings baseball playoff outcomes — summarizing many close contests — for local and state teams.  Riverbender
