ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday afternoon on Highway 158 between Millstadt and Belleville, a white van failed to notice a stationary tow truck with flashing lights—rolling over its passenger side and launching into the air—and Illinois State Police issued a citation for improper passing while the van driver was checked at a hospital and found not seriously hurt. - ➤ In February, off-duty Pagedale officer Theo C. Reynolds sped in his Dodge Durango in Fairview Heights, refused to stop when ordered, and was charged with speeding and fleeing—Missouri authorities have now filed a petition to discipline his probationary peace officer license. - ➤ Allen Lalk, an Uber driver and youth hockey coach from Columbia, was shot in the face during a ride in north St. Louis at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when a passenger ordered him to drive home—he instead went to the Columbia police station for help while police tracked a silver GMC SUV and arrested four suspects as Monroe County State's Attorney will file assault charges Monday. - ➤ The Belleville East Lancers won the IHSA Class 4A regional softball game 9-0 against Belleville West at West's home park Saturday morning, with Zoe Peters recording three hits, a home run, and four RBIs while Olivia Hemmerle struck out seven in a complete game; the win puts the Lancers into the Normal Community West sectional and they will face Edwardsville on Tuesday at Mascoutah High School. - ➤ Local track athletes fared well at the IHSA Boys State Track Finals—held Saturday at O'Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus—and several local competitors earned top finishes in team and individual events, with Belleville West finishing third in Class 3A and others capturing state honors.
