CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias warned that a new text scam is targeting drivers by falsely claiming unpaid tickets will lead to license suspension unless payment is made by May 27 — officials advise blocking the sender and reporting these messages. KSDK
- ➤ On May 17, five Fairview Heights officers were injured when a suspect from Belleville opened fire during a domestic call on Potomac Drive; officer Molly Muennich was shot in the face and remains in hospital after surgery while the suspect is in custody facing multiple felony charges. KSDK
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Natural Resources monitored a black bear seen in St. Clair County on May 26, 2025—confirmed by a biologist on May 27—that damaged private bee hives but did not harm people; residents are advised to secure food sources. Riverbender
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State Police conducted a commercial motor vehicle safety campaign from May 13th to 16th that inspected 1,870 vehicles—issuing 112 citations, 339 out-of-service notices, 2,124 warnings and 1 criminal arrest. Officers also educated drivers on seat belt use and safe equipment in Cook, Will, Madison, Montgomery and St. Clair Counties. Riverbender
