The NTSB determined that the Greyhound bus crash on July 12, 2023, was caused by driver fatigue—exacerbated by parked tractor-trailers and passengers not wearing seatbelts—which left 14 injured and three dead.
🚨 Crime
Three Fairview Heights police officers who were shot on May 17 are recovering as Officer Molly Muennick remains in critical but stable condition after emergency surgery and Officers Herminio Raimundi and Andrew Ward were treated and released — 22-year-old Belleville man Elijah Thompson was arrested and faces several charges including attempted murder.
Andrew Blassie, a 69-year-old bank executive, pleaded guilty on Monday to federal fraud charges after taking nearly $2 million from Bank of O’Fallon and almost $500,000 from a Lebanon couple’s retirement funds—he was released on his own recognizance and will face sentencing on Sept. 18.

On May 19, IHSA baseball play-in games saw wins for White Hall North Greene, Bunker Hill, Dupo and Okawville while Althoff Catholic won 5 to 3 over Staunton—advancing to the regional semifinals at Roxana City Park on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Regular season contests also featured Highland’s 10-inning win over Belleville West and Father McGivney Catholic’s 12 to 2 win over Litchfield while local volleyball teams including Belleville East, Belleville Althoff Catholic, Belleville West and Collinsville secured wins—adding momentum to the school sports season.
