- ➤ Belleville man Elijah Thompson is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery after he shot three Fairview Heights officers when they responded at 11 p.m. Saturday to a prowler report on Potomac Drive — one officer faces surgery for a jaw injury while the other two were treated and released. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southern Illinois University Edwardsville admitted an error that led to Carter Schmith’s family receiving a $17,500 bill after his sophomore year because his financial aid package was calculated with incorrect FAFSA data—at least 12 students have been affected, and the school is working to correct the mistake. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Housing Development Authority conditionally awarded more than $50 million to fund seven permanent supportive housing projects statewide that will add 129 affordable units and provide essential services for vulnerable residents — including a project in Belleville.
