- ➤ Torlisa Nash, owner of Heaven Sent Banquet Hall, was setting up for a wedding when an EF3 tornado struck Fountain Park, destroying her business on Aubert Avenue and damaging her home on Penrose Street—neighbors rescued her nearly an hour later while looters stole items, leaving her to seek support to rebuild. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Fairview Heights officers were shot when they responded to a call near a residence on Saturday night — one officer was hit in the face and had emergency surgery while a suspect was arrested at the scene and the weapon was recovered. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. JB Pritzker backs funding for the Diversifying Higher Education in Illinois scholarship—which offers minority graduate students up to four years of aid in exchange for teaching jobs—even after the program was suspended following a Justice Department warning on March 31 that it violated federal law. State and university officials say they will review the program as budget talks continue in Springfield. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
