- ➤ The Riverbend area is hosting a busy weekend of community events starting today with a Fish Fry at the American Legion and a boat show at Grafton Harbor, followed by garage sales, farmers’ markets and live music on May 17 and May 18 — residents can explore interactive fairs and outdoor festivals across local towns. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ St. Clair County couple Courtney and Stephen Gully filed a suit in Clark County, Nevada against MGM Hotels and Luxor Hotel and Casino over a bedbug infestation that led Courtney to receive hospital care after painful bites during a stay at the Luxor. They seek more than $15,000 in damages+ which will cover the pain, suffering, and loss of belongings. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Spencer held a news conference on her 30th day in office to address street violence and said reckless stunts are dangerous—neighbors are upset and police worked slowly while helping a firefighter. Gov. Kehoe announced that a state board will soon take control of the police so they have better tools to handle these issues. KSDK
- ➤ On Thursday, May 15, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski announced that Springfield received $1,387,003.38 in FEMA aid to clear debris from summer 2023 flooding and that St. Clair County can apply for about $20 million in hazard mitigation funds — she worked with local agencies to support recovery and improve future resilience. - ➤ James Carroll received a subpoena at his Collinsville home after joking about Riverview Mayor Michael Cornell on social media. He filed a lawsuit claiming the subpoena is invalid because he lives in Illinois—officials have not commented further. St. Louis Post-Dispatch

- ➤ Edwardsville High School senior Clayton Lakatos broke two Southwestern Conference sprint records by running the 100 in 10.57 seconds and the 200 in 21.32 seconds. His efforts helped the Tigers win the track meet with 162 points. Riverbender
