  • A benefit event for Wade Gibson—a local hair stylist facing pancreatic cancer—will be held on May 17 at The Pavilion in Kampsville to raise funds for his care. Friends, family and local businesses plan music, food, raffles and auctions to support Wade’s medical expenses.  Riverbender
  • William is a bright nine-year-old in foster care who loves playing games and enjoys outdoor activities like hide and seek and tag. His foster parents say he would thrive with a loving, structured family—one that supports his wish to attend Camp Wonderland.  KSDK

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Students and staff at Breese Central High School mourn the loss of 16-year-old Macy Haar who died Friday after losing control of her UTV on Alternative Vehicle Day—grief counselors have been deployed and the school will switch to e-learning on Wednesday so everyone can attend her funeral.  KSDK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Mary Miller said she wants to limit food stamp help to U.S.-born citizens, naturalized citizens, and legal residents — a change from current rules that let some noncitizens receive aid — and her proposal could save up to $8 billion over 10 years. This move affects residents in her district and parts of the Metro East.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
