- ➤ The College of Consultors of the Catholic Diocese of Belleville elected Very Reverend Godfrey Mullen, OSB, as diocesan administrator on May 9; he will lead until Pope Leo XIV appoints a new bishop. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A school bus carrying 22 elementary students crashed (Monday around 12:25 p.m.) on eastbound Interstate 64 near 25th Street in East St. Louis and ambulances arrived with officials reporting no serious injuries. First Alert 4
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A fight on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. on Dupo Community Park's basketball court led to gunfire that damaged a nearby home—police later found shell casings and are investigating the incident. First Alert 4
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Catholics in the area celebrated newly elected Pope Leo XIV at the Cathedral Basilica on Sunday, honoring the first American pope with ties to Missouri and Illinois. St. Louis Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski said the pope is expected to guide the church with a message of peace. KSDK
