- ➤ The Cahokia Mounds museum remains closed after over four years as renovation delays and cost overruns have postponed its reopening; officials hope to open it by the end of summer. Staff continue offering field trips and guided tours on-site. First Alert 4
- ➤ Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski named Charlotte Lin, a student at University Laboratory High School, as the overall winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition today; her piece “Liminal” will be shown in the U.S. Capitol and runner-up works from Belleville and Springfield will be displayed in district offices later this year. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Clair County held its annual memorial service for fallen officers on Tuesday, May 5 at Christ Church in Fairview Heights. The sheriff’s department thanked Christ Church, various law enforcement agencies, and special guests, and announced that next year’s service will be held on May 4. Riverbender
