CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On April 22, Wood River Police with help from neighboring agencies and OnStar tracked a stolen white Chevrolet 6500 dump truck on Illinois 255 and arrested John C. Chapman (52) and Laura A. Chapman (46) in connection with a homicide in Greer, South Carolina. Riverbender
- ➤ On Tuesday, police in Madison County arrested two suspects wanted for a homicide in South Carolina after they stopped a stolen white Chevrolet dump truck on Illinois Route 255—both are held in jail pending extradition. First Alert 4
- ➤ Madison Co. State’s Attorney filed felony mob action charges against teens Hailey Ditzler and Olivia Brown — who lured a woman to a remote spot and violently assaulted her and also attacked another woman — as investigators in Madison and St. Clair Counties worked to secure their arrest. KSDK

- ➤ A Belleville teen from Blessed Sacrament School won the grades 6-8 category in a state art contest sponsored by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the Illinois State Board of Education with a vibrant farmscape — a work that shows her great-grandpa's farm — and her entry will be displayed at the museum for visitors to see. - ➤ Illinois State Police Troop 8 Commander Captain Casey Faro announced that patrols under the Distracted Driving Enforcement Program will take place in Madison and St. Clair counties in May—targeting drivers using handheld devices while driving. Riverbender
- ➤ Today, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin told Illinois voters in a video message that he will not run for re-election in 2026—ending his long service in the Senate—while he works for Illinois until his term ends. Riverbender
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that two lanes on eastbound I-55/70 in St. Clair County will be closed today at 6 a.m. for emergency bridge repairs — crews expect the lanes to reopen by noon on Saturday. First Alert 4
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Illinois’ Department of Public Health has issued a standing order that lets pharmacists give PrEP without a doctor’s prescription to help those at risk reduce HIV infection. The order requires pharmacists to complete training and follow protocols for private testing & record keeping. Riverbender
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed on Wednesday the state's first measles case after laboratory tests on an adult in far southern Illinois and is checking the clinic where the patient sought care—officials stress that this is not an outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control reports 800 measles cases in 26 states nationwide, a reminder for residents to keep vaccinations up to date. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
