ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Morel mushroom hunting season is on in Illinois and Missouri as spring weather and warming temperatures boost growth in local woodlands + river bottoms. Foragers are advised to verify that mushrooms are true morels before eating since false ones can be dangerous.  KSDK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • IDOT announced that westbound I-64 will be reduced to one lane between Illinois 159 and Illinois 157 for pavement work. Lane closures will begin Friday, April 10 at 8 p.m. until Monday, April 13 and repeat from Friday, April 17 until Monday, April 20 so drivers should plan alternate routes.  Riverbender

  • The American Red Cross urges donors to book blood or platelet donations—donors get a t-shirt if giving by April 12 and a $15 e-gift card if donating after—and a Belleville event is set at Southwestern Illinois College on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Riverbender

  • Marquette Catholic's baseball team won 8-1 over Althoff Catholic on Tuesday, April 7 in Alton — Rea had three hits as the Explorers built an early lead and will play against the Crusaders again on Thursday.  Riverbender
