COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eleven-year-old Ian was featured in today's A Place to Call Home after he played pickleball with champion Anthony Slaughter—he now hopes to take pickleball lessons. He loves math, soccer, and fishing and dreams of becoming an engineer.  KSDK

CULTURE NEWS

  • Five art students from Belleville East High School were chosen to display their work at the 2025 Regional High School Juried Art Exhibition at SIUE—an event inviting junior and senior students from local schools to submit art. Their pieces, created with different mediums, will be on display for local viewers in the coming days.  Riverbender

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Clair County voters cast ballots on April 1 in the consolidated elections—Collinsville re-elected Council members Donna Green at 45% and David Seaton Jr at 35%. In O’Fallon, Treasurer David H. Hursey won with 48% and Ward 3 Councilman Roy Carney won with 25%—while Madison’s mayor and city clerk races remain pending.  Riverbender
  • On April 1, Belleville voters elected a new mayor when Jennifer (Jenny) Gain Meyer beat incumbent Patricia A. Gregory with 46% of the vote, making her the city’s second female mayor. Contested races were held for City Clerk—won by Michelle (Shelly) Schaefer at 49%—and for alderman in Wards 2 and 5.  Riverbender
  • Sen. Duckworth and Sen. Durbin have introduced the Honor Farmer Contracts Act to require USDA to pay overdue contracts with farmers and to keep rural offices open unless a 60-day notice is given— a companion bill is expected soon to unfreeze funding and support local agricultural jobs.   First Alert 4

SPORTS NEWS

  • Belleville East defeated Granite City 14-1 on Monday, March 31 as the team scored 10 runs in the third inning with key hits from Tommy Kramkowski and others to move their record to 4-3. Belleville West also won at home 7-4 by scoring six runs in the seventh inning, which improved their record to 5-2.  Riverbender
