ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Alton Steel closed after a contractor removed inventory during a snowstorm, sparking mass layoffs of 253 workers (220 union members) and raising possible WARN Act violations. A five-week shutdown is in effect while a hiring fair is scheduled next Friday at Local 3643 Union Hall in Alton. KSDK

- ➤ Alton Steel closed after 25 years, leaving 250 workers jobless. Madison County Employment and Training Department — partnering with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity — will hold workshops at 101 E.
